TISDALE — A 44-year-old Weldon man is facing kidnapping and robbery charges after RCMP say he threatened two youths with a firearm and drove off in their vehicle with them still inside near Tisdale.
On March 12, at approximately 11:30 p.m., Tisdale RCMP responded to a report that two youth were in a parked vehicle when a man entered with a firearm pointed at them. Police say the male had driven around the Tisdale area, forcing the youth to remain inside the vehicle for approximately two hours before letting them out of the vehicle near Tisdale. No injuries were reported.
Shortly after receiving the initial report, Tisdale RCMP officers located the stolen vehicle on 101st Avenue in Tisdale. Police say they approached the vehicle, located the man inside and arrested him without incident. After searching the vehicle, a firearm, a knife and a face covering were seized. Officers also confirmed that the man had warrants from Melfort RCMP and Saskatoon Police Service.
Forty-four-year-old Gary Hill from Weldon has been charged with:
robbery with firearm;
kidnapping;
pointing a firearm;
possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose;
unauthorized possession of a firearm;
possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized;
using firearm in commission of offence;
unauthorized possession in a motor vehicle;
possession of break-in instrument;
three counts, fail to comply probation order;
two counts, fail to comply with release order condition; and
weapons possession contrary to order and fail to surrender authorization.
He has been remanded into custody until his next scheduled appearance in Melfort Provincial Court on March 19.
RCMP say they are not providing any details about the youth victims to be mindful of their privacy and well-being, as well as to protect the integrity of the ongoing investigation.
