CANORA — The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to 30 calls from March 5 to March 12, some of which included:
- one 911 Act call,
- two assaults,
- one assault with a weapon,
- one Coroners Act Call,
- two failures to comply with release orders,
- one fraud over $5,000,
- one item lost/found,
- one mischief under $5,000,
- one theft under $5,000,
- four traffic collisions,
- 11 traffic offences,
- three uttering threats, and
- one wellbeing check.
Wife hides truck keys from drunk husband
On March 7, a man called 911 reporting his wife stole his truck keys. Police investigated and learned the wife took the car keys as her husband was too intoxicated to drive.
Police look after kids of woman in labour
Canora EMS requested assistance on March 9 with a woman in labour at a residence in Canora. EMS wanted to transport the woman to hospital but could not until a short-term babysitter was found for three children under the age of 7. The Canora RCMP members did not hesitate and helped watch the three children until Grandpa arrived and relieved the police officers of their babysitting duties. It was reported that one of the children kept the police on their toes.
Youngster wastes police time
The Canora RCMP were dispatched to a 911 hang-up call in Sturgis from an unregistered cell phone on March 11. The caller advised they were nine years old but would not bring the phone to an adult when asked to do so. No emergency was reported. Police made patrols and knocked on some doors but could not locate the caller.
Woman reportedly flees assault
On March 11, a woman called 911 reporting they fled a residence after being assaulted. Canora RCMP members investigated but were unable to locate the man. A warrant of arrest was issued for a 39-year-old man from Sturgis for assault while choking, assault, and failing to comply with conditions of a release order. The investigation is ongoing.
