Premier Scott Moe shared on Monday afternoon after question period that the provincial government will be providing more details about Saskatchewan’s road to recovery on Tuesday.
The premier said it will provide the public with a better understanding of what will need to be accomplished to moderately reduce COVID-19 restrictions in the province based on vaccination rates.
“This is more like turning up the lights with a dimmer switch,” stated Moe on Monday.
“Starting to achieve a number of metrics that will be based on vaccination rates which we will be asking people to go out and get vaccinated as those vaccination rates are ultimately going to allow us to achieve the tiers where we could start getting back to normal.”
Moe added that they might take parts of plans used in other countries for the province’s strategy.
“If you look at what they did, for example, in the U.K., you didn’t wake up one morning, hit a certain percentage and then open everything up. I don’t think anybody is expecting that.”
Hearing about the government’s expected announcement for Tuesday, NDP Leader Ryan Meili said it’s worth having a plan so people know what are Saskatchewan’s next steps.
“What I will be looking for in a road to recovery plan is what triggers each of those stages – if they are rolling out stages – and making sure it’s triggered by what’s making the biggest difference such as hospitalizations or caseloads,” suggested Meili.
He said the vaccine rollout is a big part of returning to normal, but Meili believes it cannot be the only metric in this plan.
