The regular season is over in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League, and if you love junior hockey, this is when the calendar really matters.
The Canterra Seeds Cup playoffs are here, and this year’s bracket feels wide open.
Sure, there are favourites — there always are. Teams like the Flin Flon Bombers and the defending champion Melfort Mustangs have built reputations for being tough outs in the postseason. But this season proved something important: there isn’t much separating teams in this league.
Nine clubs finished above the .500 mark, which means on any given night, momentum can shift quickly.
And then there are the rivalries.
Nothing gets fans going like the Highway 10 showdown between the Yorkton Terriers and the Melville Millionaires. Those games are never quiet, never predictable, and playoff hockey will only turn up the intensity.
Elsewhere, the Estevan Bruins will try to play spoiler against Flin Flon, while the Nipawin Hawks and Weyburn Red Wings could deliver the most balanced series of the first round.
Individually, the season also belonged to players like Gabriel Courchesne, who captured the scoring title for Yorkton and helped drive one of the most productive lines in the league.
But the playoffs have a way of creating new heroes.
Every year a player steps up, a goalie steals a series, or a lower seed makes a surprising run.
That’s the beauty of junior hockey.
So if you’re looking for something to do over the next few weeks, head to your local rink, grab a seat, and take in the atmosphere — because the road to the 2026 Canterra Seeds Cup is officially underway.
