SASKATOON — A 43-year-old woman is facing charges after Midtown Plaza mall security detained her during a theft investigation that escalated into an assault Wednesday evening.
Saskatoon police were called around 7 p.m. on March 18 to the mall in the 200 block of 1st Avenue South for a report of a theft in progress. When officers arrived, they learned mall security had stopped a woman suspected of stealing merchandise from one of the businesses.
According to police, while being held by security, the woman allegedly spit in the face of a guard. Officers searched her and recovered several items believed to have been taken from a store inside the mall.
The woman has been charged with assault and theft under $5,000.
