MARYFIELD — A youth has been charged in connection with a incident in the Maryfield area earlier in March
According to a post on the Sasktip Facebook page, on March 10, Moose Mountain conservation officers responded to a report from the previous night that Sasktip described as “disturbing”. Witnesses observed a truck chasing and deliberately running over deer in a field on the outskirts of Maryfield.
According to Sasktip, upon arriving on scene, officers discovered the remains of two white-tailed deer fawns, along with the scavenged remains of a third deer. Evidence indicates that two trucks were involved – one whose driver actively pursued the animals. Both vehicles fled the scene when witnesses approached.
Sasktip later said that the second vehicle was not involved.
In an email to SaskToday, the Ministry of Environment said following the release of the advisory, Moose Mountain conservation officers received several calls from local residents. Based on the information provided, the ministry said officers located a 17-year-old youth believed to be the driver of the vehicle involved in the incident.
The ministry added the individual has been issued a summary offence notice for using a vehicle for the purpose of injuring or killing wildlife, contrary to Section 14(d) of The Wildlife Regulations.
Officers are not seeking any additional suspects in relation to this incident, the ministry said.
