MAKWA SAHGAIEHCAN FIRST NATION — Two people were charged after police found firearms and methamphetamine in a vehicle with an impaired driver on Makwa Sahgaiehcan First Nation.
On March 19 at approximately 12:20 a.m., a Loon Lake RCMP officer on patrol attempted a traffic stop in Loon Lake. The vehicle, which had two occupants, fled from police, heading southbound on Highway 26. The vehicle eventually stopped a short time later on Makwa Sahgaiehcan First Nation.
The officers observed signs the driver was impaired and arrested him. As a result of the continued investigation, the officer located and seized a small quantity of methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, a loaded firearm magazine, a can of bear mace, and two firearms. The passenger of the vehicle was also arrested.
As a result of the investigation, the driver, a 24-year-old suspect, from Makwa Sahgaiehcan First Nation, is charged with:
- one count, flight from peace officer;
- one count, operation of conveyance while impaired, and;
- one count, operation of conveyance with more than 80 mg of alcohol in 100 ml of blood.
He also received multiple traffic-related tickets and a ticket for having open alcohol in a vehicle.
The accused was also found to have an outstanding warrant with Lloydminster RCMP.
He is scheduled to appear in Meadow Lake Provincial Court on May 7.
The passenger, a 23-year-old man, from Makwa Sahgaiehcan First Nation, is charged with:
- three counts, weapons possession contrary to order;
- three counts, possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose;
- two counts, possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle;
- one count, possession of a prohibited firearm with ammunition without licence;
- two counts, carry concealed weapon;
- one count, possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized;
- two counts, unsafe storage of a firearm, and;
- one count, possession for the purpose of trafficking.
He is scheduled to appear at Meadow Lake Provincial Court on March 23.
