ESTEVAN — The Estevan Police Service and local financial institutions are teaming up to host a fraud prevention night March 26 at St. Paul’s United Church.
In an email to SaskToday, EPS Const. Danielle Stephany said those who attend will receive information on how to identify frauds or scams, and to protect themselves from being a victim.
Stephany pointed out March is fraud awareness month, and the EPS tries to have this presentation at least once a year. A similar event was held in March 2025.
"Our goal is to educate people on how to identify scams/frauds, or at the very least to ask questions about what they are dealing with to ensure they are not being scammed,” Stephany said.
The financial institutions see these scams and frauds more than the EPS, she said, as people might attend their banks for withdrawals and for other reasons. She added they are very educated and trained to see red flags with some things being asked of their customers.
“They also offer great advice on how to stay safe and ensure that their money is safe. It also allows them the opportunity to explain why they may ask so many questions about some of the requests that their clients are making,” she said.
