ESTEVAN — Members of the Estevan Police Service laid a couple of impaired driving charges during the weekend.
According to the March 28 police report, a traffic stop during the day shift resulted in a 31-year-old Estevan woman being charged for impaired driving by drug after she tested positive for cocaine on a roadside screening device. The EPS said a drug recognition expert subsequently conducted an evaluation of the driver, and the vehicle she was operating was impounded for 30 days.
A traffic stop during the night shift resulted in a man being charged with impaired driving after failing a roadside screening test. The man was transported to the police station, where he provided breath samples that exceeded the legal limit and was subsequently released with a future court date to speak to the charges. His vehicle was also impounded for 30 days.
Meanwhile, a second traffic stop during the March 29 day shift resulted in a 24-year-old Estevan woman receiving a three-day driver's licence suspension and having her vehicle impounded for three days. The EPS said she tested positive for cocaine on an approved screening device test administered roadside. Samples of blood were also obtained during the investigation and impaired driving charges are pending analysis of the samples.
In other recent police news, police responded to a domestic disturbance March 26 that the EPS said was determined to be a verbal argument with no physical violence. Members mediated and both parties agreed to remain separated for the rest of the evening.
Members responded to a report of a man playing loud music in a hotel room. On arrival, the EPS said attempts were made to get the occupant’s attention by knocking on the door and window, but a response was not received. Out of concern that the occupant may have been injured and was unable to respond, police obtained a key from hotel staff to gain entry. The subject of the complaint was not located. The music was turned off and the room was secured. The EPS said additional follow-up with the man regarding the complaint will occur.
The EPS and local financial institutions hosted an anti-fraud seminar during the evening. The event was well attended and the EPS said lots of helpful discussion occurred about how not to become a victim of a fraud or scam.
Police conducted a traffic stop with a vehicle during the night shift, during which time the EPS said the driver was noted to have signs of impairment. An approved screening device (ASD) demand was made and the driver provided a roadside breath sample with a result that exceeded the provincial limit of .04. A three-day driver’s licence suspension and three-day vehicle impound were issued.
A March 27 report of a suspicious vehicle at a local business was investigated and the EPS said it was determined to be a family member picking up a youth employee.
EPS received a report of three suspicious men outside of an apartment building in south Estevan. Members patrolled the area but were unable to locate the subjects.
A report was received of someone banging on a residential door and throwing something at a house in central Estevan. The EPS said members attended and observed several youth running in the area but were unable to locate them to determine their involvement.
A concerning text message received by a woman is being investigated. The complainant is concerned that someone might be stalking her due to the nature of the text. The EPS said the matter remains under investigation.
A curfew check was conducted on a person bound by court-ordered conditions. According to the EPS, he was found to be in his approved residence as required.
EPS received a report of damage to property March 28 at the Estevan Cemetery. The EPS said an investigation determined that the damage was done by maintenance staff in preparation for a funeral. Additional work at that location will continue, weather permitting.
A complaint of criminal harassment was received and the EPS says the matter remains under investigation.
A report came in of two cyclists who were looking through vehicles using headlamps in the 1700-block of Third Street. The EPS said members patrolled the area but were unable to locate the suspects.
EPS members attended to a disturbance call involving several men in the lobby of a hotel in east Estevan. The EPS said all three individuals involved were found to be intoxicated, and one was arrested and charged with mischief for damaging the lobby doors. He was transported to the police station and was lodged in cells to be released when sober.

During the stop, the EPS said the driver provided a roadside breath sample into an approved screening device with results that exceeded the provincial limit of .04.
