REGINA — Four teens were charged by Regina police Sunday, March 29, in an incident that included a machete, bear spray and a dog bite.
The call came in at approximately 3 p.m. Police were called to the 600 block of Princess Street for a report of a weapons offence where they determined multiple suspects had been using a firearm to threaten random individuals walking in the area.
Officers conducted a search of the area and located four suspects matching the suspect description. Three were taken into custody without incident, say police. The fourth suspect ran from police and was apprehended with the assistance of a Police Service Dog. The suspect was assessed by Regina Police Service Detention Cell Paramedics for what appeared to be minor injuries consistent with a dog bite.
A search, subsequent to arrest, resulted in the apprehension of a firearm, a machete and bear spray.
A 15-year-old male is charged with:
- Possession of a Weapon; and
- Carrying a Concealed Weapon.
A 14-year-old male is charged with:
- Possession of a Weapon;
- Carrying a Concealed Weapon; and
- Resist Arrest.
A 14-year-old male is charged with:
- 2 x Possession of a Weapon;
- Pointing a Firearm;
- Carrying a Concealed Weapon;
- Possession of Firearm or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order;
- Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized;
- Fail to Comply with the Condition of a Release Order;
- Assault with a Weapon; and
- Store Firearm or Restricted Weapon Contrary to Regulations.
A 15-year-old male is charged with:
- 2 x Possession of a Weapon; and
- 2 x Carrying Concealed Weapon.
None of the four can be named in accordance with the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act
All four youth made their first appearances on these charges in Regina Provincial Youth Court Monday morning.
