WEYBURN — The Weyburn Police Service (WPS) responded to 81 calls for service from March 22-29, according to the department's weekly report.
Police assisted Weyburn Fire Rescue on March 27 with a vehicle fire on Highway 39 near 16th Street. Both occupants had safely exited the vehicle prior to police arrival. Members assisted with traffic control until the fire was extinguished and the vehicle was removed. According to the WPS, the incident is not considered suspicious and no injuries were reported.
The WPS said members have received numerous complaints regarding ongoing noise disturbances involving a woman. Warnings and tickets have been issued but according to the WPS, the behaviour has continued. As a result, a Criminal Code charge of mischief for interfering with the lawful use, enjoyment or operation of property will be pursued against the resident.
On March 26, police responded to a report of a man passed out on the floor of a licensed establishment. The WPS said members located the man, who was grossly intoxicated. He was arrested without incident and transported to cells, where he was medically assessed by EMS due to his condition. He was later released once sober without charges.
Three days later, police responded to a report of a fight at a licensed establishment. Upon arrival, the altercation had been dispersed and one involved man had already left. The WPS said the remaining individual was located outside and found to be heavily intoxicated. He was arrested for public intoxication and held in cells until sober. No charges were laid, but the individual has been banned from returning to the establishment.
