ESTEVAN — Members of the Estevan Police Service (EPS) handled a couple reports of frauds on March 30.
The EPS received a complaint of a theft and fraud. According to the EPS, the complainant lost their wallet and has learned their bank cards were being used fraudulently. The matter is under investigation.
An online fraud complaint was filed by an individual who used iTunes cards to attempt to purchase a concert ticket. The EPS reported that after providing the card numbers, the complainant did not receive the concert ticket and is unable to communicate further with the seller. The EPS reminds the public that the use of iTunes cards to make online purchases is often the preferred method of payment for fraud schemes, as it is difficult to track the payments to the fraudulent seller. The use of pre-loaded cards for large online purchases is not recommended due to the high rate of frauds being committed through this payment method.
A collision was reported to police in which the EPS said a vehicle struck a grader while clearing snow. Both vehicles were drivable following the collision and no charges were laid. The EPS reminds motorists to provide snow removal equipment the right of way and ensure sufficient clearance when passing their location.
Police received a report of harassment. Members interviewed the victim and the matter is under investigation.
The EPS received a report of an individual operating a vehicle while their driver’s licence was suspended. Members conducted patrols in an effort to locate the individual driving, during which they observed the reported vehicle to be parked at the owner’s residence.
Police observed a vacant residence to be insecure during the night shift. The residence was checked and nobody was located within. The building was secured prior to members leaving the scene.
