The Saskatchewan Roughriders have added to their defence, signing American linebacker David Gbenda.
Gbenda joins the Roughriders after spending time with the NFL’s Tennessee Titans as an undrafted free agent in 2025, where he attended training camp with the club.
The 6-foot, 235-pound linebacker played six collegiate seasons with the Texas Longhorns from 2019 through 2024.
Over 62 games with Texas, Gbenda recorded 166 total tackles, including 10.5 tackles for loss, along with 3.5 sacks, two interceptions, four pass deflections and one forced fumble.
In his senior season in 2024, the Texas-born defender posted 61 total tackles, five tackles for loss, one sack, one interception, one pass deflection and one forced fumble across 16 games.
One of his strongest performances came in Week 5 against the Mississippi State Bulldogs, when he led the Longhorns with eight tackles and added a sack in a 35-13 victory.
Gbenda also came up with Texas’ lone interception in the 2025 Cotton Bowl against the Ohio State Buckeyes.
The move adds more depth to the Roughriders’ linebacking corps as the team continues preparations for the upcoming CFL season.
