RED EARTH CREE NATION — Carrot River RCMP have charged a man with attempted murder in relation to a shooting that occurred on Red Earth Cree Nation.
On March 31 at approximately 5 p.m., Carrot River RCMP and Nipawin RCMP received a report of a shooting on Red Earth Cree Nation.
Officers immediately responded and located an injured man. The man was taken to hospital by EMS with injuries described as serious in nature.
The investigation determined an altercation occurred between two men outside a residence on Red Earth Cree Nation. During the altercation, one of the men discharged a firearm, injuring the second man. The male suspect then fled from the area on foot.
That same evening, a man was arrested on Red Earth Cree Nation by Carrot River RCMP.
As a result of investigation, 24-year-old Floyd Nawakayas, from Red Earth Cree Nation, is charged with:
- one count, attempted murder;
- one count, weapons possession contrary to order;
- one count, possession of a firearm when knowing possession unauthorized; and
- one count, discharge firearm with intent.
Nawakayas appeared in court in Nipawin on April 1. He is scheduled to appear next in court in Carrot River on April 9.
