BATTLEFORDS — Battlefords RCMP were kept busy in March, responding to nearly 1,900 calls for service, including hundreds of property and violent crime reports.
Battlefords RCMP responded to 1,874 calls for service during the month. Of that number, 309 were reports of property crime and 202 were reports of crimes against persons.
Among the spotlights for the month, on March 17, Battlefords RCMP responded to a report of a suspicious person with a firearm near a high school at the same time a lockdown alarm was activated within the school. Although further investigation determined the two events were unrelated, officers cleared the high school, safely escorted students out of the school and took the suspicious person into custody in under 45 minutes.
"It was an exceptional response by Battlefords RCMP officers in an unpredictable and extremely high-risk situation," the RCMP said in the news release.
Also, on March 26, Saskatchewan RCMP featured Constable Alexandra Boulanger on “See Yourself in Saskatchewan Battlefords.” She shares why North Battleford is a great place to live, an exciting community to serve, and a detachment where officers can excel in their careers.
In the community, on March 11, Corporal Jennifer Brewer with First Nations Community Policing attended Red Pheasant Cree Nation to share coffee and connect with local leaders and community members, engaging in meaningful conversations about community priorities and opportunities.
Then, on March 18, Corporal Brewer and Constable Charlene Gariepy with Indigenous Recruiting attended the ID Blitz and Career Fair on Red Pheasant Cree Nation. On March 24, they also attended the same career fair on Saulteaux First Nation. They spent their days answering questions from community members, handing out stickers to children, and encouraging people to consider a future with the RCMP.
