ONION LAKE – Onion Lake RCMP have charged a man after he allegedly fled from police in Onion Lake.
On March 31 at approximately 12:30 p.m., Onion Lake RCMP received a report of a disturbance outside a residence in Onion Lake.
Officers responded and determined two males approached a residence on Sesame Street. One of the males began striking the door and shouting at the occupants inside. The males did not enter the residence and later left the property; one of them was described as leaving on a dirtbike.
Shortly after, Onion Lake RCMP located a male on a dirtbike that matched the suspect’s description. Officers activated their vehicle’s emergency equipment to initiate a traffic stop. The male on the dirtbike did not stop for police. Instead, he turned down a path that was not passable by vehicle. Officers deactivated their vehicle’s emergency equipment and continued to make patrols in the area looking for the suspect.
Later that same afternoon, Onion Lake RCMP located a dirtbike abandoned in a ditch in Onion Lake. The dirtbike matched the one the male suspect was seen riding. The dirtbike was seized by police. Further investigation determined the dirtbike was previously reported as stolen from Mervin.
As a result of the continued investigation, on April 1 at approximately 9:30 a.m., Onion Lake RCMP arrested a man at a residence in Onion Lake.
A 26-year-old man, from Onion Lake, is charged with:
- two counts, fail to comply with release order condition;
- one count, flight from peace officer;
- one count, resists/obstruct peace officer; and
- one count, possession of property obtained by crime less than $5,000.
The accused was also arrested on an outstanding warrant from Loon Lake RCMP.
The suspect appeared in Lloydminster Provincial Court on April 2. He was remanded until his next appearance on April 8.
