REGINA — From classic Easter egg hunts to library programs and interactive museum experiences, families across Regina have no shortage of ways to celebrate the holiday weekend.
With schools closed and many workplaces slowing down, the city is filling up with events designed to get kids moving, learning and enjoying the long weekend together.
Egg hunts and Easter traditions take centre stage
One of the weekend’s biggest draws is the Easter Egg Hunt at Government House, running Saturday, April 4 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Families are invited to bring baskets and search the historic grounds for brightly coloured eggs hidden throughout the property, creating a traditional Easter experience in one of Regina’s most recognizable locations.
Across the city, Easter-themed activities continue at shopping centres and community spaces.
At Victoria Square Shopping Centre, families can meet the Easter Bunny and take free photos on Friday, April 3 and Saturday, April 4 from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m., offering a simple and accessible outing for younger children.
Libraries host free family-friendly programming
Regina Public Library branches are also hosting a series of free Easter-themed programs throughout the weekend, giving families more indoor options.
At the Sunrise Branch, young children can take part in a Spring Storytime and Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 4 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. The program is designed for ages three to seven and includes a themed storytime, activities, and an egg hunt, with children required to attend alongside an adult.
Later that day, families can head to the Central and Children’s Branch for a Family Dance Party on Saturday, April 4 from 3 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., featuring music and interactive fun.
The activities continue Sunday, April 5, with another Family Dance Party at the Albert Branch from 2 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Also on Sunday, the Regent Place Branch will host a Celebrate Easter event from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., offering a variety of themed activities set up throughout the library.
Museums turn learning into Easter adventures
For families looking to mix fun with education, the Royal Saskatchewan Museum is hosting multiple activities throughout the weekend and into the following week.
The Dino Egg Hunt runs daily from April 3 to April 10, from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., challenging visitors to search for hidden dinosaur eggs across the museum exhibits.
Starting Monday, April 6, the museum also launches its “School’s Out” programming, featuring interactive learning stations, scavenger hunts and hands-on activities designed for all ages.
Recreation centres and city spaces stay active
While many city services are closed for the holiday, several recreation facilities remain open with adjusted hours, giving families more options to stay active.
The Regina Sportplex will be open throughout the weekend, including Friday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Meanwhile, both the North West Leisure Centre and Sandra Schmirler Leisure Centre are open Saturday and Monday with afternoon hours, offering swimming and indoor activities for families looking to get out of the house.
