UNITY — Volunteer committee members of the Unity Paw Park are not tucking tails anymore, as another round of vandalism was discovered in the morning of March 28.
Laura Howdle said this is the third time the park has been hit over the past few years, with much of the damage this time at the parking lot south of the trees, leading to the walking path. A 4×4 post, a few 2×4’s and solar lights were all damaged by a vehicle, pieces of which were recovered and turned over to the Unity RCMP. There were also broken beer bottles located near the scene. Howdle figures the damages would be around $150 to replace, as the damage is not repairable.
“We are advising everyone that any damages will be reported to the RCMP and charges will be laid against those responsible, resulting in criminal charges,” said the committee in an online social media post. Howdle told SaskToday that no charges have yet been laid in connection with this incident.
“We operate on donations, and as a volunteer group, we are considering not making any repairs. We never wanted to be faced with the option of continuing fundraising or clean up and leave it,” she added.
The committee is looking at setting up trail cameras again, to help deter vandals from wrecking things, but there have been problems in the past with cameras being stolen or damaged.
