SASKATCHEWAN — Several members of the SaskToday news team are finalists for awards through the Saskatchewan Weekly Newspapers Association (SWNA).
SaskToday swept the finalist spots for Best Agricultural Coverage: Single Story or Feature. Candidates are: Angela Brown for “Battlefords farmer urges more options to control gopher problem” in the Battlefords Regional News-Optimist; Liz Jacobson for “Time-saving harvest innovation introduced by Sturgis agricultural producer” in the Preeceville Progress; and Azure McGonigle for “Ag Safety Week: the unheard crisis on today’s farms” in the Unity-Wilkie Press-Herald.
McGonigle is vying for the Salute to Veterans Award and Best First Nations Coverage Award for “The soldiers Canada almost forgot. A spotlight on Indigenous war heroes”; and Best Saskatchewan Recreational Story or Series of Stories for “Hands that help, hearts that care through Wilkie Community Club”.
Brown is a finalist in the Best Business Writing category for “Casino Showdown? Two groups unveil separate plans for the Battlefords”.
The winners will be announced during an online ceremony May 12.
