REGINA — Drivers and pedestrians in downtown Regina are being urged to plan ahead as construction resumes on 11th Avenue beginning April 6, bringing lane restrictions, sidewalk closures and a temporary intersection shutdown.
The City of Regina confirmed the new phase of work will focus on completing remaining upgrades along the corridor, including replacement of the north sidewalk between Scarth Street and Cornwall Street.
Construction fencing will be installed along that stretch starting April 6, while traffic between Hamilton Street and Cornwall Street will be limited to local vehicles only. Drivers accessing parking at the Bank of Montreal building will still be able to enter, with flag personnel directing vehicles through a single lane.
Despite the restrictions, the south sidewalk will remain fully open, and pedestrian access to the Cornwall Centre will continue throughout the project.
A more significant disruption begins April 13, when the intersection at 11th Avenue and Cornwall Street is scheduled to fully close for construction. During that time, Cornwall Street will temporarily shift to two-way traffic to maintain access to the Hill Centre Parkade. Traffic adjustments are also expected on 12th Avenue, which is anticipated to operate with two-way flow during this phase.
City officials say both phases of construction are expected to be complete by the end of April, with broader traffic restrictions in the area easing as crews move into May.
Commuters, downtown workers and visitors are advised to allow extra travel time, as congestion is expected to increase during peak hours while the work is underway.
