WEYBURN — The Weyburn Police Service says it responded to 59 calls for service from March 30-April 6, resulting in 15 charges.
Six were laid under the Criminal Code, seven were under the Traffic Safety Act and two were for City of Weyburn bylaw violations.
The WPS received a complaint April 3 through the Report Impaired Drivers (RID) line. A vehicle description and location were provided. Patrol members quickly located the vehicle and identified the driver.
Police suspected alcohol was involved and made an approved screen device (ASD) demand. According to the WPS, the driver was not co-operative with police and refused the demand. The accused was subsequently arrested and charged for refusing the demand, and has a future court date, an indefinite driver’s licence suspension and a 30-day vehicle impoundment.
Also on April 3, police were called to an establishment for mischief and assault. Upon arrival, the subject had left the business. Through investigation, the WPS said it was determined the accused was extremely intoxicated and became angered, flipping tables and chairs, and then becoming violent, assaulting an employee.
Police later located the accused, who was arrested and charged with assault and mischief under $5,000. The accused was released on an undertaking with conditions and a future court date.
During the evening of April 4, police received a complaint of an assault that had just occurred inside a south Weyburn residence. The WPS said police attended and determined that a man had assaulted a woman and a youth. The accused, who was still at the residence and was extremely intoxicated, was arrested and kept in police custody while the investigation continued.
According to the WPS, after a full investigation was completed, the accused was charged with two counts of assault and uttering threats. He was released once sober on an undertaking with conditions and a future court date.
