SASKATOON — Saskatoon police are investigating two homicides that account for the third and fourth of the year. One is the result of an April 3 fire, and the other relates to an incident early Thursday morning, April 9.
On April 3, police and fire were called to a residential structure fire in the 400 block of Avenue I South. During firefighting operations, firefighters removed a 61-year-old female from the structure. She was declared deceased at the scene. Police said in a release issued April 9 that, through investigation, it has been determined she was the victim of homicide. Members of the Major Crime Section are investigating.
The Major Crime Section and Forensic Identification Sections are investigating following the city’s fourth homicide.
At around 3:45 a.m. on April 9, officers on patrol responded to the 500 block of Avenue X South for a report of an injured person. There, they located a 39-year-old man who was unresponsive, say police. He was transported to hospital by Medavie Health Services West where he was later pronounced deceased.
