CARLYLE — A Redvers man has been charged with wilful promotion of hatred, following an investigation that lasted nearly a year.
According to a news release from the Saskatchewan RCMP, on April 16, 2025, the Carlyle RCMP received a report of hateful material being posted online in a public forum.
"An investigation determined that an individual was wilfully promoting hatred against an identifiable group," the RCMP said.
As a result of this investigation and in consultation with the Saskatchewan Crown Prosecutions office, the Saskatchewan RCMP says 35-year-old Travis Patron of Redvers is charged with one count of wilful promotion of hatred as per the Criminal Code.
In a news release, the Friends of the Simon Wiesenthal Center (FSWC) applauded news that Patron had been charged "in connection with inflammatory anti-Semitic diatribes he made on his personal website".
The news release said the charge followed criminal complaints filed last summer by both the FSWC and B’nai Brith Canada, which led to an RCMP investigation. Following the investigation, the FSWC said the RCMP determined that Patron was indeed “wilfully promoting hatred against an identifiable group.”
“We are grateful to the police and RCMP for giving this matter the serious attention it deserves and taking the necessary actions to bring Travis Patron to account,” said Jaime Kirzner-Roberts, FSWC’s senior director of policy and advocacy. “We hope this sends a strong message to other perpetrators that hate speech and anti-Semitic rhetoric in Canada won’t be tolerated. All the more so when it involves repeat offenders, like Patron.”
