2025 was a busy year for the Regina International Airport as it welcomed over 1.3 million passengers, which was a 3.1 per cent increase from the year before. Saskatoon’s John G. Diefenbaker International Airport also had a banner year in 2025, welcoming over 1.5 million people becoming their second busiest year on record. While these numbers are impressive for a relatively small province like Saskatchewan, they’re nowhere near what some of the world’s busiest airports deal with.
According to Airports Council International, Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson Airport was the busiest in the world welcoming a whopping 106.3 million people in the past year, which is actually down from 1.6 per cent from 2024.
It’s estimated that a total of 9.8 billion passengers globally flew in 2025 which is up from the year before and up significantly from pre-pandemic numbers. Experts are wary about passenger numbers in 2026 thanks to uncertainty surrounding fuel prices and what the impact will be on the industry from conflict in the middle east.
