ESTEVAN — The Estevan Police Service (EPS) has responded to a variety of calls in the past few days.
Police received a complaint of the theft of an electric bicycle April 15 near a hotel in the city centre area. The EPS said surveillance video of the suspects has been obtained and the matter is under investigation.
That same day, the EPS received a request for a well-being check on a woman who appeared to be intoxicated in the central area. The EPS said members attended and determined an intoxicated woman had locked herself out of her residence. Arrangements were made to have her door unlocked and she was released to the care of an individual willing to take responsibility for her safety.
Police attended to a hotel regarding a call for service and while concluding that investigation, overheard a loud argument in an adjacent room. The EPS said members spoke to the occupants and mediated a resolution to the dispute.
A youth was reported to have left elementary school without permission or notifying anyone of where she was going. EPS members located the youth and arranged for family members to attend the police station to return her to their care.
The EPS received a call through the Report Impaired Drivers line regarding an individual believed to have used marijuana prior to driving. Members located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop, during which the EPS said the driver was subjected to a roadside drug screening test. The test came back negative for cannabis and the driver was permitted to continue driving.
Members attended to a dispute between a landlord and a tenant. The matter was mediated and the EPS said both parties were advised to contact the office of residential tenancies to address the concerns.
Police were called to a complaint of a possible domestic disturbance occurring in an apartment complex. The EPS reported that on arrival, it was determined that the unit in question was vacant and being cleaned, which caused the concerning noises heard by the complainant.
The EPS reported multiple checks were conducted on individuals bound by court-ordered conditions, and all were found to be in compliance.
The EPS said it received a request April 14 from the Regina Police Service (RPS) to locate and arrest a man, believed to be living in Estevan, on a Regina warrant for failing to comply with a release order. The individual was located during the day shift, arrested and released on conditions as per the Regina police request.
Police received a report of a hold-up alarm at a local bank. Members attended and determined the alarm had been set off by construction staff working on the building at night.
A report was filed of a man breaching a court-ordered condition to not have contact with youths under the age of 16. The EPS says the matter remains under investigation.
The EPS reported police conducted conditions checks on several individuals bound by court-imposed curfews. All those checked were in their approved residences and abiding by their conditions at the time of the checks.
The EPS said it received a report of youths trying to hitchhike on King Street. Members attended the area but were unable to locate the individuals.
A complaint of criminal harassment was received by the EPS on April 13 and the matter remains under investigation.
A report of an attempted telephone scam was received, in which the EPS said the intended victim was asked to provide information regarding PayPal and other accounts. No information was provided by the complainant and the matter has been referred to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
A request for a well-being check resulted in members contacting the subject and determining that he was safe and well. The EPS said community resource information was provided but no further police involvement was required.
A traffic stop initiated in response to an automated license plate reader (ALPR) flag resulted in a 22-year-old man being charged for driving while suspended. The EPS said the vehicle was impounded for 30 days and he was issued a summons to attend court to speak to the matter.
