REGINA — The City of Regina is kick-starting the Speaker’s Corner Drainage Renewal Project on Thursday.
Extending into the fall, the project will enhance stormwater drainage across the downtown and nearby areas once finished.
“A city that invests in its infrastructure invests in its future,” said Carolyn Kalim, City of Regina director of water, waste and environment, in a news release. “Speaker’s Corner Drainage Renewal Project will play a key role in strengthening Regina’s stormwater network for years to come.”
The work will reduce lanes along Albert Street between Albert Memorial Bridge and Leopold Crescent and close the walking paths along Wascana Creek at Angus Boulevard.
Additionally, traffic restrictions will occur as the work progresses on 19th Avenue and Angus Boulevard.
The project addresses damage in 2023 to one of the city’s main stormwater drains along the Albert Memorial Bridge.
After the bridge collapsed, a temporary stormwater management system was required adjacent to Speaker’s Corner in Wascana Centre.
The project’s design will ensure stormwater flows away from properties and roadways into the Wascana Creek, while reducing the risk of flooding.
Updates on traffic restrictions from the project can be found here.
