SASKATOON — Police are investigating after an armed assault and break-in at an apartment complex in Wildwood area Friday night, followed by a high-speed chase that was called off due to safety concerns.
On April 17, at about 11:20 p.m., police were called to the 100 block of Tait Crescent for a report of an assault with a weapon.
Police arrived on scene and located a 21-year-old man with what were believed to be non-life-threatening injuries consistent with an assault. Officers learned the victim entered the apartment building when he was confronted by two unknown males, one of which brandished what appeared to be a firearm. The two suspects then assaulted the victim and robbed him of multiple items.
While at the scene, officers noticed one of the doors to a unit had been broken. Through their investigation, they learned the unit had been broken into. It’s believed the two incidents are related.
Shortly after, officers located a vehicle matching the description of the suspect’s vehicle and a traffic stop was attempted, but once officers activated their vehicle’s emergency lights, the suspect vehicle fled at a high rate of speed.
Officers continued to follow the vehicle as it continued to travel at a high rate of speed before disengaging to ensure road safety. Then, on April 18, at around 10:50 a.m. while on patrol in the 100 block of Cavers Street, officers once again located the suspect vehicle unoccupied. A search of the vehicle resulted in police locating ammunition, a handgun grip, a hammer, and multiple ski masks.
Police are continuing to investigate and anyone with information that may assist is asked to contact police at 306-975-8300 or submit an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
