REGINA – Proceedings in the Saskatchewan Legislature were briefly disrupted Monday afternoon by a protest from the gallery against the Bell AI Data Centre project.
As members were providing their statements in the Legislative Assembly, an individual or possibly individuals inside the Assembly chamber shouted, “Stop the AI data centre on Treaty 4 land, this land is sacred!” There were also shouts of “F—— AI. F—— your data centre.”
Proceedings in the Assembly were briefly halted for about a minute while this went on. The individual or individuals involved were ordered removed from the Assembly gallery by Speaker Todd Goudy.
Speaker Goudy later thanked the staff for their swift handling of the situation.
The protest inside the Assembly took place soon after an outdoor rally against the project in front of the Legislature on Saturday. It also came on the same day that the RM of Sherwood council was scheduled to deal with the AI Data Centre project at their meeting later on Monday afternoon.
