The Saskatchewan Roughriders are adding a local arm to their quarterback room this spring.
The club will welcome Jake Farrell to training camp as part of the Canadian Football League’s QB Internship program, giving the University of Saskatchewan Huskies pivot a chance to work alongside pros ahead of the 2026 season.
Farrell is one of nine U SPORTS quarterbacks selected for the initiative, which has been running since 2010 and is designed to give young passers exposure to the pro game through practices, meetings, and day-to-day life inside a CFL organization.
For the Saskatoon product, the opportunity keeps him close to home while offering a first-hand look at what it takes to compete at the next level.
Farrell appeared in seven games for the Huskies in 2025, throwing for 647 yards with a 61.1 percent completion rate and eight touchdown passes. He also took the reins as the starter in the 60th Vanier Cup, adding big-game experience to his resume heading into the internship.
The program has proven to be a stepping stone for several quarterbacks who have gone on to CFL opportunities, including Tre Ford and Taylor Elgersma.
League-wide, the 2026 class features quarterbacks from coast to coast, each assigned to a CFL club for the duration of camp. Along with Farrell in Saskatchewan, notable participants include Montreal’s Jérémy Fyfe (Sherbrooke), Ottawa’s Elijah Barnes (Carleton), and B.C.’s Drew Viotto (UBC).
The CFL preseason is set to begin May 18, with the regular season kicking off June 4 when the Hamilton Tiger-Cats host the Montreal Alouettes.
For Farrell, it’s a chance to turn heads in familiar territory — and potentially put himself on the radar for a future in Riderville.
