ONION LAKE – Onion Lake RCMP have arrested and charged three men after a firearm was discharged from a car.
On April 7 at approximately 7:10 p.m., Onion Lake RCMP received a report of a male with a firearm in a vehicle. The vehicle was described as a car, and it was last seen in Onion Lake.
Officers immediately responded and began searching for the car.
While patrolling, Onion Lake RCMP received a report of a firearm discharged from a car in the Maidstone RCMP detachment area. No injuries were reported to police. The car described in the report matched the car Onion Lake RCMP were searching for. The car was last seen on Highway 3 near Frenchman Butte. Maidstone and Onion Lake RCMP both responded.
Shortly after, Onion Lake RCMP located a car matching the suspect vehicle’s description driving at a high rate of speed on Highway 797 between Onion Lake and Frenchmen Butte. Officers made multiple attempts to stop the vehicle, including initiating a traffic stop where the car failed to stop for police.
The car later came to a stop on the side of RC Road in Onion Lake. Three adult male occupants of the car were arrested. During a subsequent search of the car, officers located and seized a firearm and ammunition.
As a result of the continued investigation, a 44-year-old man, a 24-year-old man, and a 30-year-old man, all from Onion Lake, are each charged with:
- one count, possession of a firearm when knowing possession unauthorized;
- two counts, careless use of a firearm;
- two counts, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose; and
- two counts, possession of a firearm/weapon/device/ammunition in motor vehicle.
The 24-year-old suspect is additionally charged with:
- one count, flight from peace officer; and
- one count, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
The 30-year-old suspect appeared in Lloydminster Provincial Court on April 15. The 44-year-old suspect is scheduled to appear in Lloydminster Provincial Court on May 4. The 24-year-old suspect is scheduled to appear in Lloydminster Provincial Court on May 20.
