Is this the real life? Or is it just something resembling Norse mythology?
Time will tell for the Saskatchewan Roughriders who announced Monday the signing of American defensive lineman Thor Griffith.
Listed online at 6-foot-2, 320 pounds ahead of his senior year with the University of Louisville Cardinals, Griffith played 13 games in 2024 recording 20 defensive tackles, five tackles for a loss, three sacks and one forced fumble.
Griffith was described as a “powerhouse interior defensive lineman” with “the ability to get under the blocker’s pads and re-establish the line of scrimmage” in a pre-draft profile by NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein.
Unselected in the 2025 NFL draft, Griffith signed with the Seattle Seahawks as a free agent last July but was released two days later.
Before transferring to Louisville, Griffith played three collegiate seasons at Harvard from 2021-23, recording 132 tackles, including 34 for a loss, 14 sacks and two forced fumbles over 30 games played.
In his final year at Harvard, Griffith was named a second-team All American, a finalist for top defensive player in the NCAA’s Football Championship Subdivision (FCS), and the FCS Football Central Ivy League defensive player of the year.
As a freshman in 2021 he was also named a finalist for the Jerry Rice Award, which is given to the top FCS freshman in the United States.
