Premier Scott Moe has sent a second letter to Prime Minister Trudeau asking for a meeting while once again pointing out what he feels can be done to help mend the relationship that the federal Liberals have with the province.
That letter re-iterates what the premier feels can be done in the areas of equalization, the carbon tax and pipelines.
When speaking to reporters on Thursday following question period, Moe mentioned that his second letter is meant to stand up for the industries that are creating wealth for the hard working people in the province.
But despite back-and-forth discussions with Justin Trudeau’s office, a meeting has yet to be confirmed, even when the prime minister has committed to meeting him. The premier admitted he’s concerned.
“We’re disappointed because those appear to be just words that were voiced the other evening,” stated Moe at the legislature. “We are seeing words, not action, by this prime minister.”
When asked for his thoughts on the situation, opposition leader Ryan Meili thinks the premier’s news regarding a second letter to the prime minister is not really news.
The NDP leader believes the Moe is blaming the federal government to change the attention from other items brought up during question period such as the crisis with classroom sizes and emergency wait times.
Meili said Saskatchewan people aren’t buying it.
“He does this over and over again, points fingers elsewhere, and tries to distract from what’s going on here,” he suggested. “This isn’t going to solve problems with what we have today, which is a carbon tax that was made in Ottawa, that isn’t designed with Saskatchewan’s needs in mind.”
Moe said he looks forward to sitting down with Trudeau to discuss the points he makes in the letter at the earliest opportunity.
Earlier this week, Moe indicated there has been a back-and-forth with the prime minister’s office on such a meeting happening.
