NORTH BATTLEFORD — A busy rodeo weekend in North Battleford brought increased traffic — and a strong enforcement presence from community safety officers.
The City of North Battleford said local roadways saw significant traffic over the weekend, attributed in part to the community rodeo event.
CSOs assisted Battlefords RCMP with enhanced enforcement efforts, participating in a targeted traffic operation Saturday evening.
CSO files included:
- Six tickets issued under the provincial Traffic Safety Act. One driver was ticketed for travelling 145 km/h in an 80 km/h zone, resulting in a seven-day licence suspension, a 30-day vehicle impoundment and a $966 fine.
- Ten warnings issued under the provincial Traffic Safety Act.
- Nine roadside alcohol screening tests administered, with seven passes and two fails. The two drivers who failed were both under the age of 21, resulting in 60-day licence suspensions and three-day vehicle impoundments, along with significant financial penalties.
- In addition to traffic enforcement, CSOs supported operations at the Access Communications Centre by assisting with crowd management and the closure of the rodeo dance event in response to safety concerns.
"North Battleford community safety officers not only enforce all city bylaws, but they are also authorized to uphold 13 different Provincial Statutes. Community Safety Officers (CSOs) regularly collaborate with Battlefords RCMP and Citizens on Patrol at various times to enhance community enforcement efforts," the city said in its release.
