The past few years we’ve heard a lot about the use of drones and drone regulations. From amateur photographers and agriculture to national defense, the drone market has increased exponentially over the years to over $6 billion in 2024 in Canada alone. Analysts estimated the Canadian drone market reached $7.5 billion by the end of 2025 according to Next Move Strategy Consulting.
Even some restaurants are now exploring the use of drones for food deliveries. Little Caesars, a common pizza and pasta restaurant chain across North America (including in Regina), is the latest place to announce they’ll be trying out drone technology as part of food deliveries. The chain says they’ll be testing the idea in Wylie, TX where they intend to use heavy lift drones to carry the weight of food. The drone will be able to carry two large pizzas and drinks in one flight.
Little Caesars is partnering with a company called “Flytrex” to develop the special drones capable of carrying the food. Customers will have to download a special app to put the order in if they want it delivered to them via drone. The drone can travel upwards of four miles with the average delivery taking less than five minutes.
This isn’t the first time a restaurant chain has tested the use of of drones. Just last summer Chipotle announced a partnership with Zipline to bring food to customers autonomously.
Let’s just hope pigeons and seagulls don’t have a taste for pizza and garlic bread and swipe the occasional delivery!
