REGINA — The upcoming Wednesday, April 29, the Regina executive committee has two key agenda items, including grant allocation and Brandt-city deal.
Grant allocation
The City of Regina is planning to hand out special grants for events happening this year.
These events include: Mosaic – A Festival of Cultures (upwards of $50,000), sixth annual National Day of Truth and Reconciliation ($10,000), Regina Canada Day 2026 ($50,000).
The $110,000 will come from the city’s Community Investment Grant Program.
If approved by exec committee, final approval for the funding will require council approval on May 6.
Brandt-city deal
Brandt Properties Ltd. has proposed purchasing several buildings from the Regina Exhibition Association Limited (REAL) District, including the Brandt Centre, the Canada Centre Building, the Queensbury Centre, and the Agribition Building.
The company would purchase all the buildings for $6.5 million, which Regina chief financial officer Daren Anderson said would be at a higher market value.
Beyond the proposed sale, nearly 700 REAL staff would be transferred to Brandt under their current collective agreement.
The deal includes a proposed five-year tax exemption for Brandt, which could be extended in the future.
Regina will also continue to fund operating costs for the buildings slated for sale, $6 million in the first year and $3 million in the second.
The proposal requires exec committee’s approval on Wednesday before heading to council for a final vote.
If approved, Brandt would acquire the Canada Centre on July 1, followed by the remaining buildings on Sept. 1, and the transfer of the land by Dec. 31, 2027.
Regina's exec committee meeting begins at 9 a.m. inside Henry Baker Hall.
