SASKATOON —A preliminary hearing will be held for a man charged in connection with an assault at a west-side restaurant and lounge earlier this year.
The hearing, to determine if there’s enough evidence for 31-year-old Dylan Ahenakew to stand trial, is scheduled for September in Saskatoon Provincial Court.
Ahenakew's case was before the court on April 27, where he was remanded in custody. He is charged with aggravated assault, and two counts each of possession of a dangerous weapon, carrying a concealed weapon, and mischief.
The charges stem from January, when Saskatoon police patrol officers responded to a home in the 200 block of Avenue W South in Pleasant Hill, where they found a man suffering from serious injuries. Police determined the victim had been involved in a physical altercation with two other men inside a restaurant and lounge in the 2200 block of 22nd Street West.
Four days later, officers identified and arrested Ahenakew after observing him get into a taxi in the 200 block of St. Paul’s Place. Police say a machete was found in his possession at the time of his arrest.
