REGINA — The 2026 Hospitals of Regina Foundation Spring Home Lottery has announced its top prize winners, including for its $1.8-million show home in Emerald Park.
That grand prize home, plus $50,000 in cash, has been won by Laszlo Berta of Regina. According to the foundation, his lucky winning ticket number was 1002826.
Berta’s grand prize is the show home located at 1 Huber Bay in Emerald Park, overlooking the nearby golf course. It is the first time the Hospitals of Regina Foundation has offered a grand prize show home located in Emerald Park. As well, at $1.8 million, it is also the most valuable grand prize show home they have ever had.
Also announced was the 50/50 winner with a payout of $593,750, that prize going to Dave Constable of Regina.
Winner of the BMW and Bahamas Early Bird or $100,000 cash is Lydia Burtnack of Arran, Sask. As well, the Membership Loyalty Prize of $10,000 cash goes to Renzo Palandri of Regina.
Both Berta and Constable, and their families, were on hand Friday to receive their prizes at the show home in Regina.
“It was a very good feeling, and just, I still can't believe it,” said Berta about the news that he had won.
Berta said that this was about the fifth or sixth time in 18 years that he has bought tickets for the lottery. As for the reasons why he buys tickets, he said it was for “supporting, and of course, winning.”
He added that “I never win anything. And I thought, I'm going to buy another time, last time. And if I'm not going to win, then I'm never going to buy again. But I will, I will buy again.”
Berta says the family is “really happy, and they are proud. So basically, everybody is happy. Including me. It's a big thing in a lifetime.”
As for moving in and what he plans to do with his new house, Berta said he still will “have to process it and think what I'm going to do.”
Berta said he was at home when he got the news.
“I was jumping out from the shower, and somebody called me on a Saskatoon phone number.”
He thought maybe he should not answer, because “I have no friends in Saskatoon.” But he decided to pick up the phone, and the caller told him he had won the grand prize.
“And I said, I can't believe that, this is not going to happen. And she said, yeah, this is happening.”
The 50/50 winner Constable had a similar reaction when he found out he won.
“We were in the kitchen, just finished cooking supper,” Constable said. “And actually, so we got a phone call. I was the same. I didn't answer the number, because I didn't recognize it. So they left a voicemail.”
The voicemail was from the Home Lottery, and Constable decided to call back. He was told they were the 50-50 winner.
“Initially, I was like, you're kidding me. And then immediately after that, I was like, holy poop,” Constable said.
“We just couldn't believe it. It was a little shock. You always buy a ticket hoping you're going to win, but never actually winning, thinking you're going to win. It's just always a hope. It was exciting. Absolutely.”
Constable said he has been buying home lotteries for about 20 years, and “won a small thing here and there, but this was life changing.”
As for what they will do with the money, “we're going to do something fun for sure. And then be smart with it. Pay off some debt. Invest a little. Who knows? We've got to talk about it.”
The complete winners list will be posted May 8 here.
