LAS VEGAS — A medicine man previously banned by Saskatchewan's Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations from all FSIN events, ceremonies and spiritual practices, has been sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole for 37 years.
Nathan Lee Chasing Horse, now 50, was convicted of 13 sexual assault charges in January and sentenced on April 27 in a Las Vegas, Nevada court, according to the Associated Press.
According to U. S. authorities, Horse, a “Dances With Wolves” actor, was accused of sexually abusing Indigenous girls and leading a cult. He was charged with sex crimes spanning two decades. In 2018, British Columbia RCMP contacted U.S. authorities after he was named as a suspect in an investigation involving a victim from B. C.
There is still an outstanding warrant for Horse from the Tsuut’ina Nation Police Service in Alberta.
