SASKATOON — A 30-year-old man is facing several charges, including two counts of aggravated assault, after two stabbings in a span of about 45 minutes on Saturday.
Police responded to the first incident just after 2:20 p.m. on May 2, when they were called to the St. Paul’s Hospital for a report that a 25-year-old man was receiving medical care for non-life-threatening injuries consistent with a stabbing. Police determined the stabbing occurred around 20th Street and Avenue Q, in the Riversdale area.
The victim told police that he was approached by a group of people who asked for cigarettes and after being denied, they stabbed him.
Then at around 3:05 p.m., officers were dispatched to a report of an injured person in the 800 block of Avenue D North where it was reported that a man had been stabbed.
Officers arrived on scene and located a 61-year-old man with what were believed to be non-life-threatening injuries consistent with a stabbing. He was taken to hospital by paramedics for further medical care. Other responding officers located a man matching the suspect description in the 800 block of Avenue E North. Officers were able to arrest him without further incident and a search of his person resulted in police seizing a knife. Officers also noted the man matched the description of the suspect in the first stabbing.
He has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault, possession of a weapon, carrying a concealed weapon, and obstruction.
