ESTEVAN — Three young people were arrested after members of the Estevan Police Service (EPS) were called to a vacant residence.
According to the police report for May 6, members attended to a residence in north Estevan on a report of unauthorized individuals inside. The EPS said the young people were located and taken into custody as they exited the residence.
All three were charged under the Trespass to Property Act, and the EPS said one of the youths was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana and breaching conditions of a probation order.
In other recent police news, the EPS said it received a report May 4 of a customer leaving a central Estevan gas station without paying for the fuel he obtained. The customer, who was identified through surveillance, was contacted and returned to the business to pay for the fuel. The EPS reported he was unaware the payment didn’t go through.
Police responded to a domestic disturbance involving a mother and daughter at a central Estevan motel. All parties were separated, warned to avoid each other and stay in their own rooms. According to the EPS, a short time later, one of the females returned to the other’s room and continued to be disruptive. She was subsequently arrested for causing a disturbance and lodged in EPS cells for the night to prevent a resumption.
A complaint was received from a man who sent an explicit image, through social media, that was being used to extort him for money. The EPS said he had been threatened that if he did not comply and provide money, that the image would be released publicly. The victim was advised to not send money and to block the telephone number associated with the extortionist. The matter remains under investigation.
Police attended to a residence in the Hillside area regarding two men that were reported to have entered the property without permission. The EPS said an investigation determined that the individuals had previously been tenants at the residence and the matter related to an ongoing dispute regarding their rental agreement. The men were cautioned for trespassing and all parties were directed to follow up with the Office of Residential Tenancies to resolve the situation.
A complaint of harassment involving several teenage youths was received, and the EPS says it remains under investigation.
A noise complaint was reported at a central Estevan hotel May 5. Members attended and the EPS said the occupant was warned of the City of Estevan's noise bylaw.
EPS members attended to a north Estevan residence for a domestic disturbance. All parties were spoken to and the EPS said the matter was resolved without further issue.
Members responded to a central Estevan location for a man running out into traffic. The EPS said the man was found, spoken to and warned of his actions. No further complaints were received.
Members attended to a central Estevan hotel for a request to have an individual removed from the property. The EPS said a woman was advised she was required to leave and when she became non-compliant, she was arrested and lodged in cells to prevent further issues.
Police responded to a report of a suicidal teenager in south Estevan. The EPS reported the individual denied making a concerning social media post and was offered mental health services. The parents of the youth were advised of the concerns and the youth was left in their care
Police attended to McDonald's for a man causing a disturbance. The EPS said he fled prior to members arriving, but he is known to police. Attempts to locate him throughout the night were not successful.
A well-being check was requested at a Hillside apartment complex after a domestic dispute was observed by a family friend. Police attended and spoke with all parties involved. The EPS reported there were no signs of a physical altercation but a warning was given to an intoxicated man about his behaviour.
Police were requested at a multi-occupant residence where it was believed that a drug-like substance was found in the shared laundry area. Police attended, and according to the EPS, confirmed that it wasn’t an illicit substance. It was disposed of.
A report came in of a former resident trying to break into a residence. Police attended and ensured that there was nobody in the complainant’s yard. The EPS said a teenage girl was located a short time later and spoken to. She was told not to go back to the residence.
The EPS received a Report Impaired Drivers line complaint May 6 regarding a vehicle on the Estevan bypass. The EPS said members located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop, during which the driver showed no signs of impairment, and indicated he was from the U.S. and not familiar with his surroundings. He was cautioned regarding the observed driving actions and sent on his way.
A report of a man acting strangely in the city core was investigated. The EPS said it was determined to be an individual known to police that was singing and talking to himself but required no assistance.
A complaint of an individual present in a local business, who had previously been issued a trespass notice, was received. The matter is under investigation, the EPS said.
A report of stolen decorative items from a front yard was investigated. A suspect was identified. The EPS said members spoke with and cautioned the individual against taking property from others’ yards.
A complaint of the theft of a trailer was received and the EPS said it remains under investigation.
