REGINA — Regina’s pickleball hub will be making a shift to a new home.
Since 2021, the Queen City Pickleball Hub has operated inside the Avana Centre, located at the Regina Exhibition Association Limited (REAL) District, but talks of extending its lease with the building's operators have stalled since last year.
“We had been in ongoing negotiations with REAL since July 8 of 2025, hoping to get an extension on the space. Our lease was running out in November of 2025. We were just looking to hopefully have a five-year lease, but there was a lot of heel-dragging on REAL’s part,” said Queen City Pickleball owner Phil Greenwood.
Greenwood secured a lease extension through the end of May, but plans to remain at REAL changed after news emerged that Brandt was interested in purchasing several city-owned buildings at the site, including the Avana Centre.
“I haven’t had any communications on the process of the sale and what it could mean for us.”
Regina’s city council eventually approved the sale of the buildings to Brandt last week.
New home
Greenwood said he had made an offer for a new building, which has been accepted upon certain conditions.
“There are conditions such as subject to financing approval, subject to phase one environmental, subject to a code review consultant and subject to an appraisal.”
Greenwood said he does not anticipate any issues with having those conditions removed.
The building itself is smaller than the current hub, but Greenwood said it can meet community needs.
He also said owning a building will provide him with flexibility, an option he hadn’t had as a tenant.
“When I own a place, I can listen to the feedback from the customers and the players, and if they make suggestions, which they quite often do, I can easily make those adaptations to create a better environment.”
He added, “It's always great to do those little extra touches that make it that much more special.”
Greenwood is targeting the new hub to open before the winter season and will make an official announcement soon.
