The 620 CKRM Country Cookout is a tradition/celebration that brings community, entertainment, and comradery directly to local farming families. 620 CKRM, “The Voice of Saskatchewan,” appreciates our ag community and hits the roads to farmyards across the province during the hectic spring seeding and fall harvest seasons. The cookout provides a full, hearty comfort meal delivered directly to their yard by Nicky’s Cafe & Catering, typically featuring roast beef, potatoes, salads, and fresh buns. Premium local refreshments wash the dust down with cold drinks courtesy of local favorites like Last Mountain Distillery and Original 16. We also bring the music with local country artists who have been featured on the station’s airwaves perform live music right on the homestead. Our winners also walk away with premium prizes and promotional items supplied by our great sponsors such as:
- McBids
- Sask Milk
- Young’s Equipment
- Smart Investing Solutions
- Nelson Homes
- Louis Dreyfus Canola Crush in Yorkton
- Cowtown
- Municipal Hail Insurance
- Prairie 6 Inch Eavestrough

Our objective is to gives families and their crews a built-in, break from long days operating machinery in the fields. We all benefit with building/strengthening the cultural and economic fabric of rural Saskatchewan. This time also serves as an active celebration of generations of families who keep the province running and “feed the world”.
On this go round we went to the Warkens of the Stoney Beach area. What a beautiful day as we explored our surroundings and discovered what this great province has to offer. My day started in Stoney Beach and then North to the historic Nicolle homestead and nature trails. We were so close to Buffalo Pound Provincial Park that it was a must to stop in. Then it was cookout time at the Warken farm. Enjoy the journey we had.
- At one time this was a booming community
- Dave was my greeting party in Stoney Beach
- Love the prairie sentinels
- You need to check this area out. It’s right in our backyard.

Next were off to Buffalo Pound Provincial Park. Located 20 minutes northeast of Moose Jaw, Buffalo Pound Provincial Park offers a balanced blend of nature and recreation no matter the season. Inspired by First Nations history of corralling bison, the park maintains a herd in a paddock among the hills.
Buffalo Pound has excellent fishing, canoeing, a heated outdoor pool in summer. While the winter months offer a toboggan hill, ice-fishing, and cross-country ski trails. Visitors can take advantage of hiking and biking trails, as well as two disc golf courses, a beginner nine-hole disc golf course and a professional 18-hole disc golf course, all year-round. Birdwatchers can also enjoy migrant waterfowl viewing at Nicolle Flats Interpretive Area and Marsh Boardwalk.
Don’t forget to grab a bite at The Trailhead Café, now open in the renovated Visitor Centre, where you can also enjoy free Wi-Fi.
This would be a great location to get away from it all. We’ll be back.

thanks to Chris for the exploration pass to Buffalo Pound. Appreciate you.

This was my broadcast location later in the day. Beautiful.

Next we worked our way back to the Warken farm with a quick image of the Mt. Pleasant elevator and a quick stop at Bin There Campground.

Thanks to Tommy John Ehman and his brother Rob for the great music and kind words. Appreciate you guys.

Love this barn in Pense. I’m a sucker for old barns, elevators, bridges and rustic homes that have been abandoned.
