NORTH BATTLEFORD — Two employers accused of multiple violations under provincial immigration and foreign worker recruitment laws had appearances in North Battleford Provincial Court on May 13.
Harinder Sachdeva and Vikram Singh’s matters were adjourned to June 10 for an election.
Singh is charged with four offences under Saskatchewan’s Foreign Worker Recruitment and Immigration Services Act (FWRISA). He is accused of charging fees for employment, misrepresenting employment opportunities including position, duties, length of employment, wages and benefits, threatening deportation or other action for which there is no lawful cause, and taking unfair advantage of a foreign national’s trust or exploited their fear or lack of experience or knowledge.
Sachdeva faces the same four offences under sections 22 and 23 of FWRISA. In addition, he is charged with two offences under sections 5-1(d) and 5-1(g) of The Immigration Services Act (ISA), contrary to sections 7-6(1)(k) and 7-6(2).
Singh’s alleged offences took place at Taste of Battlefords between April and June 2024 in North Battleford. Sachdeva’s alleged offences occurred at Rick's Place and Taste of Battlefords between April and July 2024 in Humboldt and North Battleford.
