REGINA — As construction is underway for the new AI data centre in the RM of Sherwood, Bell Canada has revealed the lead contractor.
Bird Construction Inc., located in 18 areas across Canada, including the RM, will lead the project. The company helped construct the Jansen Potash Project and the Woodfibre LNG project.
“In Sherwood, Bird will prioritize local and Indigenous workforce participation in co-ordination with Bell and other project partners,” states Bell in a media release.
Bell also announced Alton Tangedal Architect Ltd, based in Regina, has been appointed as the architect of record.
Meanwhile, George Gordon Developments Ltd., which had been part of Bell’s original announcement for the data centre, will help maximize business opportunities.
Dan Rink, president of Bell Fabric AI, said good partners are essential for giving their company a foundation in the province.
"With Bird as our preferred construction partner, we are well-positioned to continue to build out critical AI infrastructure for Canada in the years to come.”
Bell previously announced a project team to deliver on the early stages of the development.
In April, the RM of Sherwood approved the development agreement for the site, which saw backlash from protestors.
Bell intends to finish the first stage of the AI data centre by mid-2027.
