IQALUIT, Nunavut — A 27-year-old man wanted in Saskatoon for missing court dates on drug trafficking charges has been arrested in Nunavut.
Yahya Jibril Mohammed, of Edmonton, was taken into custody on May 11 after arriving in Iqualuit from Pangnirtung. According to Nunavut RCMP, Mohammed had an outstanding warrant from Saskatoon and was under court ordered conditions requiring him to live at a Saskatoon residence.
Members of the Iqaluit RCMP General Investigation Service, with support from Pangnirtung RCMP, arrested him at the Iqualuit International Airport. Police also seized $16,020 during the arrest.
Mohammed appeared before a Justice of the Peace on May 12 and was remanded. He appeared again in Iqaluit court on May 14 and was once more remanded. His next court appearance in Iqaluit is scheduled for May 15.
Iqaluit RCMP GIS charged Mohammed with two counts of breach of a release order, two counts of breach of probation, and possession of proceeds of crime.
According to Saskatoon court documents, Mohammed was charged on April 2 with trafficking cocaine, trafficking fentanyl, possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking cocaine, possession of fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking, possession of proceeds of crime under $5,000. On April 24 he was charged with while being at large on a release order failed to appear in Saskatoon Provincial Court.
Mohammed’s co-accused in the Saskatoon investigation, 32-year-old Blerim Bajrami of Saskatoon, also faces drug trafficking charges. Bajrami failed to appear in Saskatoon court in February, and a bench warrant was issued for his arrest.
