WEYBURN — Cpl. Ryan Cherniawsky of the Weyburn Police Service (WPS) was saluted with the Saskatchewan Association of Chiefs of Police (SACP) Valour Award during the SACP Mess Dinner and Awards Night on May 13.
In a news release, the Weyburn Police Service said the Valour Award recognizes police officers throughout Saskatchewan who "demonstrate exceptional bravery and courage in the line of duty".
Cherniawsky was recognized for his actions during a structure fire in Weyburn on March 5, 2025
"Upon arriving at the scene, Cpl. Cherniawsky entered the smoke-filled residence and safely removed an individual he located inside, placing himself at significant personal risk in order to save another man’s life," the WPS said in the news release.
"The Weyburn Police Service is extremely proud of Cpl. Cherniawsky’s courageous response during this dangerous incident. His actions reflect the highest standards of policing and public service."
The WPS added it is also proud of the professionalism and dedication Cherniawsky displayed while representing both the WPS and the City of Weyburn on the provincial stage.
