REGINA — Regina’s anticipated new area, Coopertown, has moved forward with a tweaked plan.
Approved by Regina city council on Wednesday, the new plan enhances the functionality, connectivity and long-term adaptability of the plan approved in 2018, noted Dream Developments, which will oversee the project, in a submission.
The new plan incorporates a proposed site for a joint-use school, identified through collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Regina Public Schools, and Regina Catholic Schools.
“This responds to growing enrolment pressures in northwest Regina and strengthens the neighbourhood’s role as a complete community,” notes Dreams delegation submission.
The plan also includes a connected street network.
“[This supports] pedestrian movement, active transportation, and multi-modal travel, while meeting city standards and avoiding unnecessary infrastructure,” states Dream.
Courtney Street has been identified as the major roadway to move large amounts of traffic from the new neighbourhood to other parts of the city, and will become a major transit site in the future.
As for the population itself, the revised plan identifies a maximum population of roughly 5,600 residents if over 2,000 units are built.
Dream also plans to develop a 6.5-hectare neighbourhood park featuring an athletic field, an accessible playground, and additional amenities.
Coopertown is expected to have houses for sale in 2027.
