REGINA — Five men were back in court on drug and weapons charges following a months-long investigation by Saskatchewan RCMP that began with an arrest in Regina and led to arrests in Moose Jaw and Swift Current.
The Regina raid
In Regina, 21-year-old man Jaideep appeared in Regina Provincial Court on May 19 and was remanded. He is scheduled to return to court on June 23.
His arrest followed a March search warrant executed by Saskatchewan RCMP’s SERT and White Butte RCMP at a home on Gordon Road in Regina. Police say they found drugs and a prohibited firearm at the residence.
Jaideep is charged with three counts of trafficking (methamphetamine, fentanyl, cocaine), three counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking (methamphetamine, fentanyl, cocaine), possession of the proceeds of crime over $5,000, unsafe storage of a prohibited firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession of a prohibited firearm, possession of a prohibited weapon with ammunition without a license/registration, and unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted weapon.
The Moose Jaw raid
After the Regina seizure, RCMP continued their investigation. On April 10, SERT executed a search warrant at a hotel on Diefenbaker Drive in Moose Jaw. Officers searched a hotel room and a vehicle at the property, seizing approximately 245 grams of fentanyl, 72 grams of cocaine, a sum of cash, and drug trafficking paraphernalia.
Two men, Shobhit, 21, and Ritik, 22, were arrested and charged with two counts of trafficking (fentanyl, cocaine), two counts possession for the purpose of trafficking (fentanyl, cocaine), and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.
Both appeared in Moose Jaw Provincial Court on May 20. Shobit was granted bail, while Ritik was remanded and is scheduled for a bail hearing on June 3.
The Swift Current raid
Later that same day on April 10, SERT executed another search warrant at an apartment on Robert Street East in Swift Current. Officers searched the unit and two vehicles at the property, seizing approximately 282 grams of fentanyl, 556 grams of cocaine, a sum of cash, and drug trafficking paraphernalia. Two men, Ankit Ankit and Rohit Deshwal, were arrested at the residential property.
Ankit, 21, from Niagara Falls, Ont., and Deshwal, 25, from Mississauga, Ont., were each charged with two counts of trafficking (fentanyl and cocaine), two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking (fentanyl and cocaine), and possession of property obtained by crime.
Ankit appeared in Swift Current Provincial Court on May 20 and was remanded until his next appearance on June 3. Deshwal was also remanded on May 20 and is back in court the same day.
Moose Jaw and Swift Current RCMP, Moose Jaw Police Service, and Saskatchewan RCMP’s Critical Incident Response Team and Police Dog Services assisted in the execution of the search warrants and the arrests.
