SASKATOON — A newly purchased home in Hague is being transformed into a fully accessible residence for adults with varying abilities through a partnership between Sunshine Housing Inc. and Zak’s Building Group.
The still-to-be-named facility, located on 6th Street in Hague, about 49 kilometres north of Saskatoon along Highway 11, is expected to provide long-term housing and support for four residents once renovations are complete.
Zak’s Building Group committed more than $100,000 in donations toward the project, including building materials, skilled labour and project management services.
The renovated residence will include barrier-free layouts and adaptive living spaces designed to meet evolving accessibility needs.
The project is part of Sunshine Housing’s broader efforts to modernize and expand its infrastructure for aging residents and individuals requiring increased support.
Sunshine Housing executive director Jenn Rutka said the new home will allow residents to remain in the community they know while continuing to receive person-centered care and support.
“The partnership and investment from Zak’s Building Group is more than a contribution to the building – it’s a true commitment to the people we support,” said Rutka, who thanked Zak’s for the donation.
Zak’s Building Group began renovations after Sunshine Housing took possession of the home on April 1. The partnership was sparked through a shared vision of community impact and long-term support.
Zak’s Building Group chief construction officer Chad Zacharias said the company wanted to become involved after learning about Sunshine Housing’s goal of creating a fully accessible home in Hague.
“This project is more than construction. It’s about creating a place where people feel at home, supported, and connected,” said Zacharias, who added the project is an opportunity to create a supportive environment where residents can feel connected and at home.
Founded in 1985, Sunshine Housing provides residential and day-program supports in Hague and Osler, including services through community-based programming and the Daily Delights café in Hague.
The organization said the project has also been made possible through continued support from families, community members and local partners who share its vision of providing meaningful lifelong support for individuals with varying abilities.
Renovations are currently underway, with plans to celebrate the completion of the home through a future grand opening event later this year, welcoming the individuals who will live there in a meaningful and personal way.
