GOODSOIL — Conservation officers in northern Saskatchewan are investigating after a pile of 20-30 tires was burned May 17 in an old gravel pit a few kilometres east of Goodsoil.
“Burned tires release toxic chemicals causing respiratory damage, cancers and heavy metal poisoning to those present at the time of the burning,” stated a post on the Sasktip Facebook page. “Burned tires also cause environmental damage in the form of air pollution, water contamination and soil poisoning through toxin leaching.”
Anyone with information is encouraged to call the Turn in Poachers and Polluters line to assist officers in determining who is responsible for the burning tires. People can call the Turn in Poachers line at 1-800-667-7561 or report online at saskatchewan.ca/tipp.
Callers don’t have to identify themselves and they might be eligible for cash rewards through the Sasktip rewards program.
